Once you have purchased an Ipaq PDA you next step will be to find a nice bag
or case to carry it in.

Once you have purchased an Ipaq PDA you next step will be to find a nice bag or case to carry it in. You want to protect your investment with a durable case. You should also make sure that your new case meets your needs. Bag-like cases offer you space as well as safety. Learning about the different styles will help you chose a case or bag that meets your needs.

There are some really good reasons to buy a case or bag for your Ipaq PDA. The main reason may be to protect the PDA from breaking. If you have a sturdy case it can protect your PDA if it is accidentally dropped or stepped on. You can also protect your PDA from weather conditions if you are going to be using it outside often. Water damage to a PDA can be fatal.

You will probably get a generic case from the manufacturer with your PDA. It will most likely be simple and constructed of cardboard and plastic. It may work for simple protection, like keeping your screen from getting scratched, but for more serious protection you need to get another sturdier case. The investment you make in a new case or bag is well worth the protection you get for your investment in your PDA.

The types of cases vary from soft to hard covers. You can also get extra storage. There are soft covered cases that open up like a book with your PDA on one side and room on the other for a notepad. There are hard cases that offer the most extreme protection against any possible harm. Bag type cases are soft and look like a mini duffel bag. They not only house your PDA, but offer many different storage areas for your cell phone, a small snack, car keys or whatever you need to take with you.

These bag type cases reduce the need for you to carry a purse or other bag and use only your PDA case. Another thing you may want to look at is how your PDA fits into the case. If you are going to want to use your PDA while it is in the case and it is a generic case that is not made specifically for your Ipaq then you may end up with problems.

Buttons could be covered, the screen covered or speakers not clear so the sound is muffled. If you hook connections into your PDA often you should make sure you can do so while it is in the case if you intend to keep it in the case while using. Check how easy it is to put your PDA in and take it out of the case. Chose a case that offers you the features you need.

Going over why you need a PDA case or bag and looking into the different options in cases will help you chose the best case for you. Be sure to consider how you use your PDA and if the case will effect how you use it. It doesn’t hurt to try on your PDA case and give it a practice round to see how it will work if you actually buy it.

PDA stands for Personal Digital Assistant, a handheld device (small and light enough to be operated while it is held in the hands) that is typically used as a personal organizer. It has evolved into a more complicated computer-like gadget capable of performing a multiplicity of functions, such as serving as wireless communicators for sending and receiving data, faxes, and electronic-mail messages. The PDA concept was first introduced by Apple’s MessagePad in 1993, and was later revolutionized by the PalmPilot in 1996, created by Palm, Inc. The overall market for PDAs has now grown by 20.7% in the third quarter of 2005, compared to the third quarter of 2004.

A basic PDA features a date book, address book, task list, memo pad, clock, and calculator software. Today, PDAs are widely used as notepads, word processors, spreadsheets, and appointment schedulers and to synchronize data with a PC or home computer. They may also be integrated with cell phones to provide mobile communication and be used for accessing the Internet through technologies such as Wi-Fi, Wide-Area Networks (WANs), and Bluetooth.

Most PDA devices are not equipped with a keyboard like palmtop computers. Instead, they are pen based and rely on special hardware that recognizes handwritten inputs to tap selections on menus and enter printed characters. Some devices may also include an on-screen keyboard for better accessibility.

PDAs now depend largely on a number of Operating Systems to function. Some of the most widely used PDA Operating Systems include Palm OS (Palm, Inc); Windows Mobile (Microsoft); Blackberry (Research in Motion); Symbian OS; and those based on the Linux kernel available for free such as GPE, and OPIE/Qtopia.

Are you ready to find the solutions you have been searching for? Great!

Are you ready to find the solutions you have been searching for? Great!

Buying a PDA can sometimes be quite confusing. In fact, some people don’t even know what a PDA is, or what it can do for them but that’s another article.

Now, since you have made that decision to purchase a PDA. I congratulate you–you are buying a form of technology that will help you get your life organized! Since this is most likely your first PDA purchase you may find these 5 quick buying tips very beneficial to your PDA selection. So let’s take a look at these now.

PDA buying tip 1: The prices of PDAs vary widely so you definitely should shop around and compare. Find a PDA at a price that you can afford. Now, don’t go crazy when you purchase a PDA, remember more money doesn’t always mean a better PDA. If you are not sure as to what a PDA is worth that you are planning to pay then you need to read different PDA reviews to see what others think of the product. PDA reviews are a major resource that can help you to successfully determine which PDA will meet any and all of your needs. So do plan on using them, you definitely won’t regret it.

PDA buying tip 2: The size, another important factor when selecting a PDA. PDAs come in different sizes and so it is important that you find one that you find comfortable in handling on a regular basis. Some PDAs are very tiny while there are others that are considered large but they are smaller than a laptop. You need to go out to your nearest electronics store and sample a few and if you feel that a tiny device is comfortable then get a small device, if not then a larger PDA may be better.

PDA buying tip 3: Let me explain, PDA size and its keyboard are very important factors in choosing a PDA. A PDA keyboard that has keys too close together or are small and difficult to use can be very annoying if not aggravating and no one likes to be aggravated. This is especially true for those that have problems with fine motor skills or have a repetitive motion injury which could make using a tiny handheld PDA near impossible to use. So it’s in your best interest to thoroughly examine the usability of a PDA’s keyboard before you make your decision.

PDA buying tip 4: The whole idea in enjoying the use of your pda is the portability that this product provides. So if you plan on using your pda for internet access I highly suggest that you find one that offers wireless internet access. Keep in mind, using a cell phone dial up even though it may be more secure it certainly isn’t less expensive than wireless.

PDA buying tip 5: If you are going to or planning to carry quite a few files or images on your PDA, you may want to consider buying a PDA with a larger size installed memory even though you can purchase an expanded memory card. PDAs are small, handheld devices, and there memories are a bit limited. But in the long run it is cheaper to get a PDA with sufficient installed memory and expand later if you need to than to buy one with less and buy an additional expanded memory card.

In the beginning of your search for your pda, if you keep these tips in mind, there is no doubt that you will easily find one that will serve its purpose and you will be happy with. Your next step now is to start your research and your sampling of PDAs. Visit your nearest electronics dealer to determine which PDA you want and get your life organized today!

I’m hoping that you found all of this interesting and helpful. The internet is full of helpful tips and tricks and I appreciate you coming and visiting.

Smartphones are poised to become the information center and entertainment device of choice. Increasing adoption and usage of smartphones bodes well not only for smartphone makers but also for the wireless industry as a whole.

Investments in shares of wireless technology companies and wireless service providers have been particularly profitable in the post-dot com era. The wireless industry is in a sweet spot of the technology space. Bountiful business opportunities exist as wireless usage continues to increase in both developed and emerging markets. And driving this usage higher are new products such as smartphones whose capabilities are being augmented by the deployment of third generation (3G) wireless networks.

Feature-Rich Smartphones.

Smartphones are more than mobile phones. A smartphone is a mobile phone with built-in functions of a personal digital assistant. Smartphones pack a diverse range of features and functionalities into the handset that makes them a mobile information center and entertainment device for the user.

Smartphones commonly include features such as web browsing, e-mail, and multimedia capabilities. Certain models have enough horse power to run complex software applications such as enterprise customer relationship software and car navigation programs.

A full-featured QWERTY-type keyboard, MP3 player, and Geo Positioning Systems capability are becoming common among higher-end smartphones. Instant messaging is a cool feature making its way into the mainstream.

Smartphones, A Growing Segment of the Handset Market.

Smartphones represent a small, yet rapidly growing, segment of the handset market. According to Strategy Analytics, smartphone sales at 17.5 million units in 2004 accounted for 3% of the worldwide sales of 684 million handsets. However, this represents a significant jump from the 8.2 million units sold in 2003.

The demand for smartphones is projected to grow rapidly in the coming years. By 2009, the number of smartphone units sold is estimated to reach 125 million or 16% of total handset sales worldwide. This implies a 48% compound annual growth rate in smartphone unit shipments over the 2004-2009 period.

Smartphone Early Adoption Led by Asia and Europe.

Adoption of smartphones has been particularly rapid in Asia and Europe. The aggressive deployment of advanced wireless networks in these regions has encouraged early adoption of smartphones.

The Asia Pacific region currently accounts for about 37% of global smartphone sales with South Korea and Japan being leaders in smartphone usage. The European market accounts for 27% of global smartphone sales. Analysts expect smartphone sales in Europe to exceed sales in the Asian market in the coming years. North America’s market share in smartphone sales was expected to reach 25% by the end of 2004.

Nokia, the 800 lb. Gorilla of Smartphones.

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is by far the dominant global smartphone manufacturer. The Finnish company is currently estimated to command half to two-thirds share of the global smartphone market.

Nokia recently introduced its feature-rich Nokia 7710 smartphone in Europe and Africa. The wide-screen Nokia 7710 smartphone includes a full Internet browser, an integrated music player, a camera with 2x digital zoom, and a FM radio. One of the nifty features of the Nokia 7710 smartphone is its ability to make weblogging mobile. Users can post pictures and text from the Nokia 7710 smartphone directly to the web through the ‘moblog’ client.

Nokia is also expected to introduce the Nokia 3230 smartphone in the first quarter of 2005. The Nokia 3230 smartphone features a video recorder and ‘Movie Director’ that will allow 1 hour of video to be captured.

Nokia is now increasingly looking at software licensing deals to help differentiate itself from its competitors. Nokia has recently signed licensing deals with Macromedia and RealNetworks. Nokia is also said to be working on handsets that will receive wireless television feeds.

Smartphone Investment Implications.

The increasing adoption of smartphones augurs well not only for Nokia but also for other smartphone manufacturers like palmOne (Nasdaq: PLMO) and Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM). palmOne recently introduced the GSM edition of its Treo 650 smartphone. Research in Motion recently released the latest model in its BlackBerry 7100 series, the 7100g.

The incorporation of additional features and functionalities that make smartphones the portable information center and entertainment device of choice has bullish implications beyond just manufacturers of smartphones.

Wireless service providers like Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) should see their average revenue per user being buffeted with increasing use of value-added services that smartphones enable.

Then too, the increasing adoption and usage of smartphones will require the rollout of 3G wireless networks in earnest, translating into business opportunities for wireless network equipment providers such as Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERICY).

The BlackBerry 8700g handheld and accessories bring together the best qualities of a high-speed PC, a cell phone, a gaming system and a personal organizer into one super speedy device.

A blazingly fast Intel processor, 64 MB of flash memory and the speed of T-Mobile’s EDGE network creates a Java-enabled web browsing experience that rivals a PC on a high speed connection.

“The device blows the doors off of anything before,” says Jennifer Bean, IS Director for Shared Resources at BlackBerrySource.com. “The next level of personal communications revolution, the BlackBerry 8700g opens up mobile computing for today’s professional and with its array of features and available BlackBerry 8700g accessories, staying in touch has never been easier”.

With features such as a built-in attachment viewer that supports PDF, Word and Excel, the device’s legendary e-mail and PC qualities enable the user to open attachments, zoom in on a specific piece of information and view pictures and documents on a screen that’s larger, clearer and crisper than anything before.

Plus, everything we love about our cell phones, from ring tone downloads to high-speed, real-time gaming action, are built right into the 8700g. Users can seamlessly go from sending or receiving an e-mail to calling the person in the e-mail, automatically.

Rounding out the device’s list of new features is a personal organizer that automatically syncs up to your Outlook calendar.

“Users don’t ever have to hook up the device to thier PC again,” says Bean. “Once it’s synced the first time, the device wirelessly syncs to a user’s Outlook.”

The T-Mobile BlackBerry 8700g even includes built-in support for Instant Messaging, including AOL, ICQ, Yahoo and MSN, as well as the latest version of BlackBerry’s Internet email service allowing professional and personal users alike to connect to up to 10 email accounts.

When I decided that I needed to replace my terribly out of date mobile phone - an old Nextel i1000plus - my thoughts eventually wandered toward a pda phone. For those that know me this probably seemed like a no brainer. I have a long history of pda dependence going back years to a Palm 3X. However, I already had a pda that I was quite happy with. For the last year and a half I had used my HP iPAQ 2215 for everything from a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), an e-book reader, an MP3 player, a photo wallet, an alarm clock, a mobile web browser(utilizing a compact flash wifi card), among many other things. Trying to cram a phone in to all of this seemed overwhelming, but curiosity - and my need for a new gadget - got the better of me. My search was twofold - look for a new mobile phone and a new provider. With my current cellular provider I didn’t get any reception in my home so I needed to find a carrier that did.

Through various unscientific means such as my own opinion polls of friends and work associates in conjunction with some internet research I whittled my way down to either Cingular or Verizon. Both tended to get high marks from the users I polled and the from internet research. With this part of the equation worked out I went online to see what kind of phones each had to offer. I was willing to go with a 2 year commitment in the hopes of getting a better deal on phone and plan pricing. In addition I wanted to get a group plan where my wife and I could share minutes.

So, now I’m looking on each company’s respective websites for their state of the art Pocket PC phones. I’m not talking about the Smart phones - these are the phones with Pocket PC software jammed into a tiny little screen that isn’t even a touch screen - that just wouldn’t satisfy my needs. I’m talking about the full blown, “why are you talking into your calculator?” Pocket PC phones - the uber-geek, pocket protector included kind of micro computer powerhouse. After all, I’m married now and I’m really not worried about public opinion or impressing anyone with my sleek, stylish, sexy new cell phone.
I’m hoping to spend around $300.00. I figure I can sell my iPAQ 2215 on eBAY for $200.00 and $100.00 for a new phone seems like a pretty good deal.

So, what I find is one heck of a price tag. Verizon has the much talked about Treo 700. This is the first Treo with the Pocket PC operating system - Windows Mobile 5.0. This comes in at $500.00. Way too pricey for me and it doesn’t even have Wifi.
Cingular’s best price on a PocketPC phone wasn’t much better. I could get an HP iPAQ hw6510 for $400.00. Again, no wifi. This is a real sticking point for me. I don’t see any reason why a device designed for communication would leave out this major specification. Being able to connect to an 802.11b/g wireless network when it is available is a necessity.

Okay, back to the drawing board, maybe I can try this from a different angle - Ebay.
Looking up “Pocket PC phone” on Ebay gets you quite a lot of hits with a good assortment of newer and older Pocket PC phones. At this point I’m thinking that I could get something maybe slightly used that would meet all of my requirements. This would also give me a good cross section of exactly what is out there and what features are available in this type of gadget.

After going through quite a lot of auction descriptions and cross referencing manufacturer web sites I had set my sites on a particular phone, the Siemens SX66. This particular phone/pda combo had been offered by Cingular until recently and it no longer showed on their website. It seemed to fit my wish list: a fast 400mhz xscale processor, wifi, Bluetooth, SDIO slot and it had a slide out keyboard for text input. So, I watched a few auctions and kept an eye on the prices.

But, sometimes you just have to get off of the internet and hit the brick and mortar. I went to my local Verizon and Cingular stores and talked to the sales reps about what plans I was looking for. I wasn’t impressed with my long wait at the Verizon Wireless store or the pushy salesman that I got. He seemed to think he knew just what I needed and kept showing me phones and plans that I just wasn’t interested in.

I had a different experience at the Cingular store. The sales rep showed me a map of the cell coverage around my home, he talked to me about the plans that I had seen on the website and when I mentioned to him that I had been looking at a Siemens SX66 Pocket PC phone on Ebay he went into the back of the store and came out with the last SX66 that they had. I signed on to a 2 year deal with Cingular that night with a heck of a good deal on a Pocket PC phone that had all the specifications that I had been looking for.

And you know what? I can even talk on my Siemens SX66 sitting in my living room.
Is it a phone or a PDA or a handheld computer? No, it is a smartphone. Smartphones are all three, a phone, a pda and a handheld computer. You can make phone calls of course but the new windows mobile 5.0 you can email, instant message, surf the internet, listen to your favorites tunes, play games and even keep your appointment schedule using pocket outlook’s calendar.

Windows mobile is Microsoft’s answer to RIM’s BlackBerry technology that has become extremely popular in the last two years, especially among high-end business clients. That is why they have built instant messenger and hotmail email access into the operating system. To expand their reach to other carriers, Microsoft has designed Windows Mobile. So, smartphones will use 30% less power making them attractive to carriers like Cingular, Verizon etc, who allow customers a wide range of customization features.

According to industry analysts, windows mobile is now the number one stand alone smartphone and PDA operating system, probably due toi the fact that it is backward compatible soo most applications and files from earlier version will work on version 5. But, Nokia’s Symbian still has the lion’s share of the overall market and RIM’s BlackBerry is rapidly gathering market share in the PDA category.

The advent of better, longer lasting batteries and persistent memory has made the newer smartphones considerably more user friendly and therefore more popular. The larger screens and slide out QWERTY keyboards make using the new smartphones a lot easier when using their computer functions. A small keyboard beats a stylus any day for working with word and excel documents and is a nice improvement for text messaging.

Some of the new smartphones are equipped with powerful speaker and really sharp display screens which will make the music lovers and the gamers happy especially with ATI and Nvidia offering 3D acceleration chips for mobile devices like smartphones to provide the high quality available in PC games.

With the advent of smartphone, the line between a pocket PC and the mobile phone may be blurring but the programs for one platform still will not work on the other.

The race for becoming the “best tablet PC” is on. There are no clear verdicts, as technology is a dynamic thing that keeps on changing. Moreover, the issue is quite subjective. There are a number of different models of Tablet PCs, and a wide range of additional software and hardware pieces that enhance or modulate the functioning of a tablet PC. So what might be “best” for a student might not be good enough for a doctor.

A number of hybrid models are also coming up. These models can work as a PDA, mobile phone and tablet PC. Some models are convertible. There are many such categories. It is a complex task to compare the functioning of such equipment to declare which is the best model.

However, a user can choose the best tablet PC to suit his needs by looking out for certain features in a tablet PC. These features include high-speed processors, sufficient storage space in the hard disk, the latest upgraded versions of software, long battery life, wireless compatibility, the capacity to take speech inputs, and the weight and size of the screen.

Second- and third-generation tablet PCs are now available on the market. They are more advanced in terms of technology, and more effective in terms of functioning, than the first-generation tablet PCs. But those who have the latter can transform their tablet PCs by equipping them with certain accessories. A wide range of accessories is available on the market now, which can completely transform your ordinary old tablet PC into a modern machine that meets all your personal requirements. These accessories can also be used with the latest models of tablet PCs, to make them even more effective.

PDA’s, or personal digital assistants are mini personal computers that initially were supposed to be personal organizers, but in time a lot of other useful functions were added to them, and they became address books, clocks, memo pads, Internet browsers, photo cameras, and many other things.

The latest thing that was included in the PDA is a Global Positioning System Device, (a GPS device), a gadget that can determine your position anywhere on the planet, using a satellite connection, and that has built-in maps of all the roads and major facilities. So the new PDA GPS device are more than anyone would need anywhere, both at the office and on the road.

The PDA GPS devices have prices varying around a few hundred dollars, depending on their functions and characteristics, and most of them include detailed maps of various regions, (they can be used as car GPS devices also - they can generate driving instructions and can be powered from the car cigarette lighter sometimes), a touchscreen, digital camera, included memory and an operating system - Windows CE usually.

The PDA GPS’ can be used together with a laptop or a pocket PC, to which they can connect through an USB cable or wireless, using bluetooth. They can easily synchronize with the PC because they both have this function included.

All the laptop models can be connected to a PDA GPS, you just need the right hardware and software for this, and then you can turn your PC in a GPS navigation unit. If you are interested in using a PDA GPS for this purpose, you can find special, cheaper devices designed to work only in combination with a portable PC. These devices don’t have a screen or internal memory, and they are often referred to as a ‘GPS mouse’. Also, special add-ons can pe purchased, that can turn your normal PDA or laptop in a PDA GPS. These devices connect to the laptop or PDA through the flash-memory slot, ot through the USB plug, to the laptop.

PDA GPS’ are produced either for general of for special purposes and the internet market is full of PDA GPS units produced for both purposes, with prices available to everybody, so if you decide on buying a PDA GPS it’s very easy to find one!
